Cook County Sheriff's Release Records

To find someone released from the Cook County Sheriff's Office jail operation, start with the local custody record rather than a broad inmate search. The Sheriff's Office can confirm whether Cook County custody ended and can hold the booking, release, bond, transfer, and detainer details tied to that event. A community release is different from a move to state, federal, immigration, or another county's custody. Court records may explain the legal reason, while the next agency confirms what happened after the person left the sheriff's control.

Cook County Sheriff Release Paths

The Cook County Sheriff's Office administers the county jail and keeps the local custody event. A person leaving that jail may return to the community on bond, after time served, when a court orders release, when charges are dismissed, or when a warrant is cleared. The person may instead be transferred to the Georgia Department of Corrections, another county jail, federal authority, ICE, or another agency. The sheriff record should identify the local exit and, when public and recorded, the transfer destination.

Release from the sheriff's custody does not prove that the criminal case has ended. A bond release can occur while the case remains pending. A transfer ends Cook County jail custody but begins or continues custody elsewhere. Likewise, a probation or parole hold may be lifted without ending the underlying supervision. Read the release reason with the court docket and any next-agency record.

Key distinction: A Cook County jail release record documents departure from the sheriff's custody, not release from every legal obligation or agency.

Confirm Cook County Sheriff Releases

No official Cook County current roster, 24-hour release list, 72-hour release list, or archived release search was found on the public sheriff pages. Immediate confirmation therefore starts with jail staff. The official sheriff site lists +1.229.896.7471, extension 2 for the jail, and says the jail is staffed 24/7.

  1. Give the person's full name and date of birth if known, plus an approximate arrest or booking date.
  2. Ask whether the person is still in Cook County custody or whether release processing has finished.
  3. Clarify whether the event was community release, bond, sentence completion, court order, or transfer to another custodian.
  4. Request the release time, reason, authority, hold status, and destination if staff can disclose them.
  5. Follow with a narrow written records request when a lasting copy or withheld detail is needed.

A phone answer is useful for urgent status. It may not contain every field in the jail-management record. The complete Cook County released-inmate search and agency split is available from the Cook County release record hub, but the sheriff remains the primary source for the local jail event.

Request Sheriff's Release Records

A precise Georgia Open Records Act request is the durable fallback. Identify the person and the booking, then name the desired fields. Ask for the booking sheet, release date, release time, release reason, releasing authority, bond amount, detainer or hold status, transfer destination, and booking photo if needed. Include a case or booking number when available.

Georgia agencies generally must respond within three business days by producing available records, giving a timetable, addressing fees, or citing the legal basis for withholding. The state's fee summary under O.C.G.A. Section 50-18-71(c) lists paper copies at 10 cents per page and allows actual costs for some formats and production work. Ask for a cost estimate before work begins on a request that may require search, retrieval, or redaction.

Public access can be limited by a lawful seal, record restriction, juvenile rule, security concern, medical protection, or another exemption. A denial should identify the basis for withholding. A missing online entry is not itself proof that the local record does not exist.

Cook County Sheriff Release Reasons

Local release reasons should be read as plain custody events, not as final judgments about the case. Common paths supported by the Cook County research include bond, time served, sentence completion, court order, dismissed charges, cleared warrant, transfer to GDC, transfer to another county, transfer to federal or ICE custody, and a cleared probation or parole hold. The sheriff may use different wording in its own system, so a requester should not demand an invented code.

Ask for the recorded reason and authority exactly as maintained. If “transfer” appears, request the destination and any hold information that can be disclosed. If “court order” appears, obtain the matching order or docket entry from the clerk. When “time served” or sentence completion appears, the court sentence and jail credit context may be needed to understand the calculation.

O.C.G.A. Section 42-4-4 provides the basic rule that a sheriff cannot release a prisoner before lawful sentence completion except as law or court order permits. Section 42-4-7 addresses county inmate records and release at sentence expiration less lawful earned-time allowances. Neither statute turns a transfer into community release.

Cook County Sheriff Record Contact

The newer public-facing Cook County sheriff website lists the County Farm Road contact below. It distinguishes the Sheriff's Office extension from the jail extension. Use the jail line for current custody and same-day processing, then use the administrative office for records routing and written-request questions.

Cook County Sheriff's Office

3335 County Farm Road
Adel, GA 31620

+1.229.896.7471

Extension 1: Sheriff's Office
Extension 2: Jail
Office: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Jail: staffed 24/7

The county government sheriff page confirms that the office operates the county jail and performs arrests, court security, and sex-offender registration. Its County Farm Road address differs from the newer standalone site. The current contact copy uses 3335 County Farm Road because the newer sheriff site provides that public-facing location.

The official sheriff and jail page was captured in the successful image manifest. It provides the local source for the phone extensions and hours shown above.

Cook County Bond Release Proof

The sheriff and courts answer different parts of a bond release. Jail staff and the sheriff record show when custody ended. Cook County Magistrate Court holds bond hearings and issues almost all criminal warrants, while the Clerk of Superior Court handles criminal filings, bench warrants, and bond forfeitures. The court record can explain why release was lawful even when no public jail feed exists.

Ask the sheriff for release proof and the court for the bond order, docket entry, warrant action, or later disposition. A bond release does not equal acquittal, dismissal, or sentence completion. It changes custody while the case proceeds. This split is especially useful when someone left jail after a first appearance but no final result appears yet.

Note: The jail release time and the court's bond entry may appear in separate records created by different Cook County offices.

Correct Cook County Release Errors

Send a local booking, release time, release reason, hold, photo, or transfer error to the Sheriff's Office. Send a bond order, sentence, warrant, probation term, or disposition error to the court clerk. GDC handles its state offender record, and the State Board of Pardons and Paroles handles parole status. One custodian cannot correct another office's source record.

Include the person's identifiers, the disputed field, and the record that conflicts with it. If a sheriff response correctly shows transfer to GDC but the later state record appears wrong, preserve the sheriff response and contact GDC. If the release event is right but its legal basis seems wrong, compare it with the signed court order before seeking a correction.

Cook County ICE Release Transfers

The sheriff website has a Georgia HB1105 report page, but its visible content does not prove the result of any person's detainer. A Cook County release can be a transfer to ICE or another agency instead of a return to the community. The sheriff's transfer record is the first source for the local step.

If the record identifies immigration custody, check the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. It can be searched by A-number and country of birth, or by name, country of birth, and birth date. ODLS is for current ICE custody or qualifying CBP custody, not a permanent Cook County release archive. An empty result does not disprove an earlier detainer or transfer.

Sheriff Release Record Boundaries

The Sheriff's Office confirms local jail custody. It does not replace GDC for a state prison discharge, the Parole Board for post-release parole, BOP for federal custody, ICE for immigration detention, or the courts for a sentence and disposition. VINELink can provide alerts, but it is not a certified sheriff release record or lasting archive.

Georgia's booking-photo law can affect a photo request. O.C.G.A. Section 35-1-19 restricts certain law-enforcement disclosures tied to publication that charges for removal. Ask for the photo as part of a precise booking request, but expect the sheriff to apply state law, agency policy, and any exemption. Release details and photo access are related records, not identical rights.

Cook County, Georgia should be stated in every inquiry. Broad searches often return Cook County, Illinois records, which have no authority over an Adel jail event. Confirm the address, state, and agency before relying on a result.
